President’s Message

Welcome! The Junior League of Amarillo is an organization of women whose mission is to advance women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training. We have proudly served the Amarillo area for the past 93 years. Our purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.

JLA has been behind the scenes throughout Amarillo’s history, providing volunteers and financial assistance to many organizations throughout the area. You can find Active and Sustaining members of the League serving the community on non-profit boards and leadership, in civic leadership positions, and in corporate leadership positions.

This year we are focusing on our membership engagement and renovation of our properties.  We are providing several Done-In-A-Day volunteer opportunities for members to interact while serving. We are also hosting social events like book clubs and happy hours for members to get to know one another in a leisurely setting. We want League members to develop strong bonds with one another that will last a lifetime.

Construction is underway at our headquarters, Shelton-Houghton House, and we look forward to hosting an open house for members to see our new handicapped accessible restroom, renovated kitchen, and refinished flooring. We are so grateful to those who have donated to our capital campaign, and we continue to accept donations to the Headquarters Endowment Fund that will pay for the ongoing expenses of our headquarters. In 2023 we will begin construction on the carriage house, transforming it into a modern conference room with much-needed updates to its infrastructure and technology.

We hope to see you at our fundraisers – our Best of Texas concert on September 24, 2022, at Starlight Ranch and the Golf Classic in April 2023. Money raised by these fundraisers will be used for grants to our three community partners (San Jacinto Elementary School, Storybridge, and High Plains Food Bank), community assistance fund grants to various local organizations, and our signature project, Medical Center League House.

Our League is made up of vibrant and talented women from across our community. We are working together to serve the Amarillo area, and I look forward to seeing how the League improves our community this year.
