Capital Campaign

The Junior League of Amarillo is embarking upon a capital campaign to raise funds to upgrade and renovate Shelton-Houghton House, as well as provide an endowment to pay for future operating costs. With an endowment funded by your generosity, the house will be self-sustaining so that more money raised by our fundraisers can be invested in our community.

Shelton-Houghton House is a historical treasure and should continue to be enjoyed by League members and their families. In that spirit, we are opening up the house on a limited basis for rental by members for weddings, showers, retirement dinners, board meetings, and other celebrations. Please contact Michaele if you are interested in holding an event at the house.

There are a limited number of naming opportunities available on a first-come, first-served basis. These naming opportunities could recognize an individual, family, or group, such as a provisional class.

Strategic Renovation Phases:

  • Phase 1:
    • Restoration of historical features, including floors and paint
    • Necessary repairs, such as plumbing and electrical
    • Modernization of kitchen
    • Improved ADA accessibility by converting the first-floor bathroom to handicap accessible
  • Phase 2:
    • Renovation of Carriage House into a state-of-the-art training facility with audiovisual equipment and movable professional furnishings
    • Replacement of Carriage House bathroom fixtures
  • Phase 3:
    • Repurpose the second floor of the main house into a usable space for small group meetings, breakout sessions, and offices
