Making an Impact through the Brown Bags Project

The handles on a brown paper bag may not withstand a lot of weight. However, members of Junior League of Amarillo keep this holiday tradition strong! For December 2022, the Junior League supported Amarillo Angels, P.E.T.S. of Amarillo, theParc, and One in Four. Each year, the Junior League of Amarillo Board of Directors selects four organizations to benefit from the Brown Bag donations. Each organization provides a list of donation items they need to help with their own mission and operations. Items requested among all organizations include household items, pet supplies, and feminine products.

Gwen Hicks, Founder and Executive Director of Amarillo Angels, appreciates the Junior League for collecting and donating supplies to Amarillo Angels since 2019. Amarillo Angels helps foster families in the Amarillo area by delivering Love Boxes containing household supplies like toilet paper, diapers, and disinfectant wipes. “This is such a blessing. The foster families feel their efforts are seen and that the community cares,” says Hicks. “Providing these families with simple household items allows them flexibility with their time and budgets. It’s the little things.”

The impact of collecting items for the Brown Bags project has reached many families and citizens in the Amarillo community. The Junior League of Amarillo delivered 34 bags to Amarillo Angels, 28 bags to P.E.T.S. of Amarillo, 17 to theParc, and 25 bags to One in 4.
