Shelton-Houghton House Venue Rental

The Junior League of Amarillo invites you and your guests to create unforgettable memories at our historic Shelton-Houghton House. Available for events such as showers, birthdays, meetings, dinner parties, photography sessions, and more, our venue offers a unique setting for any occasion.

Built in 1914 and donated to the Junior League in 1965 by Martha Shelton Houghton, the Shelton-Houghton House serves as our headquarters. Mrs. Houghton, daughter of prominent rancher John Malcolm Shelton, ensured the house’s legacy as a historic landmark. The home, designed by Joseph Camp Berry and built by W.M. Rice in an eclectic prairie style, features a grand staircase, a remodeled kitchen and bathroom, a dining room, multiple bedrooms, a wrap-around porch, and a spacious and fenced backyard. Original furnishings include English mahogany paneling, maple floors, hand-painted wallpaper, and Oriental rugs. The house, located in the Plemons historic district at 1700 S. Polk Street, was designated a Texas Historical Marker and placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981.
